A charming township nestled on the southern end of a magnificent lake, Lake Tekapo is situated in the heart of MacKenzie Country, halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown. The crystal clear turquoise waters of the Lake, contrasted with the snow capped peaks of the majestic Southern Alps will surely captivate you.
Lake Tekapo also has one of the world’s most spectacular night skies. It is amazing how clear it can be and the number of stars visible to the naked eye during one of those nights is incredible. It is so clear that Canterbury University operates and astronomical observatory on the top of Mt John, overlooking the lake. You will surely appreciate taking out a blanket and a bottle of wine, to relax under the stars and study the constellations.
There is plenty more to see and do in this stunning area, especially for those who enjoy the great outdoors. You can visit the charming Church of the Good Sheppard, take a scenic flight and enjoy the scenery from above, take a long or short walking trail, get challenged by guided alpine climbing and hiking or go skiing in the season.
There are some great horse trekking trails and boat cruises available, and so much more to enjoy. While staying with us, we are happy to help you find the activity that is right for you.
